ICC smoking ban. Why??
The ICC Smoking Ban, is this really right? I personally do not think that this is right, who gives them the right to make up our minds.?Smoking is not for everyone, and for some people it is there whole lives. This is from the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep, smoke, smoke, smoke. This is our choice, this is not for anyone else to decide weather we can have one or not. There are many reasons people smoke, some good and some not so good. People smoke for relaxation, stress, want, comfort, distress, anger and many others. What ever happend to a free country? Our soldiers are dying each day for our freedom, and now I don't even know if we have freedom anymore. You can't smoke in pizza place, restaurants, college, or anywhere else for that matter. So where do smokers go to smoke? That's the problem, maybe if they put this ICC smoking ban into order they should give us the right to have a place where we can go and smoke. Being at college there are many stressful things going on. We have to move in, say goodbye to our families, homework, test, work, pay rent. At the end of the day all we really want is to sit down and have a cigarette and talk about our day. I understand that there are athletes that walk through our ICC hallways, and I understand that people have asthma, but why don't they provide us with a spot that we can go to where this cannot affect other non-smokers. Who to say that maybe it could even help to do better in school. Some students that smoke could probably do better if they could smoke before class. There are many that say they can concentrate better and focus more if they smoke before class starts. There are many ups and downs to smoking, but why ban it if it is not causing trouble. This is our time to be whoever we want, weather it is being a smoker or non-smoker. Why cant we have our say, why don't they let us decide weather ICC should be a smoke free campus? "We the people" of ICC should have had to take a vote and see if smoking really is consider such a bad thing to our ICC community. These are my words. My truth. Please feel free to voice your opinion and comment.

i totally understand where you're coming from. I think people should have a right to smoke where they want to. Smoking is everywhere. You have a strong opinion. You should stand up for it and don't let anyone tell you wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhen i first began reading this, i was reading with the defense of a non- smoker. I was thinking that i dont want all of the smoke around me, because im a vocalist, and i dont like the smell of smoke becasue it makes my brain feel as if its tightning. The only thing i can say is that i think they dont want you all to smoke on campus property, becasue it kinda makes the school look as if its second rate. it makes the school look as if we are here just to smoke, drink, and party. it has to do with publicity and how things look to incoming students and marketers, when they advertise ICC. ANOTHER POINT is that if they let cigarettes come onto campus, they will have alot of other things come onto campus like weed, and other drugs, and drinking. Even though it may seem as if im exaggerating, it is proven that when having one type of smokin g device, others come along. One rotten apple always has to spoil it for the bunch!I dont mean to go racial here, but especially with MY race. As you went along to say that all you really want is someplace to smoke, i actually have great sympothy for you. Although i dont smoke, i can definatley understand the feen for having a cigarette during school hours, the most stressful part of the day! They should have somewhere, where you all can go to take a break, because while the rest of us are relaxing on our down time the way we want to, you all dont have the luxury of having your full comfort because you all are missing a part of your everyday routine. understandable!very good perspective!
ReplyDeleteRozana you do have some strong opinions as Sara said. I totally agree with you though. I am not a smoker, but I think they shouldn't ban it. If it makes them do better or feel better than let them. Good job though keep your opinion, and don't let anyone change it!
ReplyDeleteI completly agree with you on this one. Smokers should have a desinated area where we can smoke. I liked how your blog made you think how one issue can bring up so many others. Its not fair that the government can allow the sale of cigaretts but can tell us we cant smoke them in public areas.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyones opinion above. I don't smoke, but I feel that there should be a place where smoking is allowed. Who even decided to enforce the smoking ban? I'm willing to bet it was not the students!
ReplyDeleteOK. So, all of you need to voice your opinion. Rozana: Are you going to write a letter to the editor of the school paper? Let's make your voice heard!
ReplyDelete(BTW, you helped ME see this issue differently when you shared your thoughts in class.)
Rozana:
ReplyDeleteCan you please bring in your altered book you wrote about in Jennine's blog?
i totally agree with you. I mean i am not a cigarette smoker. Have never touched in my life, but most of my friends smoke and i know how much they need it too. Yea the smoke bothers me if i am around it, but that just means i dont go around it which people at ICC can do. It is not that hard. One designated spot for smoking is not going to hurt anyone...if anything it will help the smokers around here.
ReplyDeleteRozana, i totally agree with you on this one, they should have done a vote or atleast something for us to have the right to do this or not. Last semester they had the students smoke 50ft away from the building and i didnt have a problem with that. The only thing that bothered me was right when i came out of class by the courtyard the students would be blowing smoke in our faces. So i don't understand why there changing areas again. Someone prolly complained or what not. But other than that great job telling your opinions and great details.
