Why tan?

Why do people tan? Why can't people just be comfortable with being who they are. God created people to be natural, so why are we abusing what God created.
Tanning in tanning beds only leads to one thing, cancer. Instead of killing our bodies why not make them better. Tanning beds can cause multiple kinds of cancer. This can all be prevented by just not going to them. Everyone wants to be the new Paris Hilton, tall, skinny, tan and beautiful. Teens want to look just like celebrities, look what we have to look up to as children. This is what magazines and TV want us to believe. Every typical girl and women have to weigh one hundred pounds and be bronze. This is why teens get addicted to tanning, they want to look like these celebrities. I think if your happy with yourself then there is no reason to tan. Yes, I do admit that it makes you look a little better and yes it makes it you feel better about yourself. Everyone is beautiful no matter size, color, height or skin. Everyone and everybody is unique in there own little way, lets take advantage of this an love the life we live. Instead of wasting thirty five dollars to tan and kill your body, spend five and go by some lotion for your skin. Women and teens everywhere be comfortable in your own skin. You may think that you look differently in the mirror, but I have something to say. "Your are beautiful in every single way, words cant bring you down. " These words were sung by Christina Aguilera, lets listen to these words and believe.

  3. ROZ,
I know what you mean! i tan once in awhile, i prefer to tan outside in the summer and in the winter i tan in tanning bed. We own one so i choose to go in it a few times, but it's like im not addicted to it, it jus tends to get boring. Everybody has different aspects of tanning and i totally agree on what your saying. Great job with your summary! =]

  4. You have some good points here roziE! You are completely right it only leads to cancer. Which is why I should stop tanning, but it makes me feel better about myself. Like you said though I should be happy with what god gave me... my white pasty skin. Good job though overall!(:

  5. I love to tan, especially in the winter, and I know it's not healthy. It's one of my vices.

I think you nailed the issue here, Rozana. We are so conditioned by society (media, etc.) as to what defines beauty. One hundred years ago no one wanted to be tan because it was a symbol of poverty.
